Your continued support will help us achieve our goal to create an outstanding railway based tourism attraction in Northern Tasmania.

Why we want, and need You.

Membership has assisted our organisation to achieve so much since we started to persuade the Tasmanian government of the value of the North East Railway Line to remain as a railway.

Following the $50,000 consultancy report and an investigation by the Tasmanian Legislative Council our organisation was finally given a lease on the rail corridor in 2020 from Turners Marsh to Lilydale.  However, this lease only permitted work around the line such as clearing of culverts, drains and vegetation.

The Board is completing the extensive documentation required for accreditation from the National Rail Safety Regulator.  This will enable us access to repair the railway line and initially have our rail bug operational at Turners Marsh.

Our volunteers have participated in many tasks from Turners Marsh to Lilydale.

Lilydale:

  • Cleanup and maintenance of the railway station area.

  • Cleanup of the railway line outside the Lilydale School.

Karoola:

  • the railway track was constructed for the DP Railcar and trailer

  • the restoration of rolling stock and vehicles

Turners Marsh:

  • clearing of vegetation along the railway track in readiness for the Railbug operation.

  • Placement of sleeper plaques

  • Construction of a Railbug for operation.
